According to Premier Kathleen Wynne, politicians in the U.S. do have an understanding of how important our auto industry here in Canada is to American carmakers.

At a meeting Friday in Toronto with leaders of Canada’s auto industry, Wynne said that she and members of her government have been lobbying lawmakers south of the border to be sure they’re clear about  how much jobs in the U.S. auto sector depend on free trade with Canada.

Auto sector leaders in Ontario have told Wynne that trade with the U.S. is their major concern.

As discussions get underway for a renegotiation of NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agrement, and in the face of President Donald Trump’s Buy American campaign, Wynne says our automakrs remain optimistic.

She points out that nearly 15 percent of all cars produced in North America are made here in Ontario.  And that Ontario has produced more cars in the past five years than any other province or state.
