A Syrian cinematographer on an Academy Award nominated film has become a victim of U-S President Donald Trump`s confusing travel bans.

21 year-old Khaled Khatib was due to arrive in Los Angeles Saturday on a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul, but was blocked at the last minute by the Department of Homeland Security.

Khatib`s film “The White Helmets“ – nominated for an Oscar in the documantary category –  is about his country`s violent civil war and the white-helmeted rescue workers who risk their lives every day to save civilians.

The Associated Press says an internal Trump administration correspondence states that the Department of Homeland Security blocked Khatib`s entry into the U.S because officials found “derogatory information“.

The term is used by Homeland Security to describe anything from passport irregularities to terrorist connections.
