The Toronto Police Union is considering filing a grievance over a directive from the chief redeploying officers to the northwest corner of the city.
Mark Saunders says they need the officers there to help officers battle recent flashpoints of gun violence in Jamestown where there have been a series of drive by-shootings.
The Toronto Police Association says the move puts officers at risk by putting them in non-familiar situations.
But Toronto Police Superintendent Ron Taverner says that isn’t the case and that officers who are brought into the division will be answering radio calls, allowing the officers from the division to police the high crime areas.
Chief Saunders says no officers safety will be in jeopardy.
