Actor Sir John Hurt has passed away.
The Oscar nominated actor was suffering from pancreatic cancer, according to his agent, and died Friday in London at the age of 77.
Hurt had a career that lasted over 50 years, with work in film and television.
His most famous role was that of John Merrick in David Lynch’s “The Elephant Man” for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
He was also nominated for his role as a heroin addict in “Midnight Express.”
In the film “Jackie,” nominated for an Oscar in this year’s awards, Hurt plays the part of a priest consoling John F. Kennedy’s wife after the president’s assassination.
