Canada’s top soldier is angry and disappointed following the release of a Statistic Canada survey that found a troubling number of sexual assaults among active service personnel, including unwanted touching. The report says an estimated 960 men and women say they were victims of assaults in the last year. Chief of the Defence Staff General Jonathan Vance points out some of the allegations were made after he made it clear such conduct won’t be tolerated in Canada’s military. Vance is vowing to punish known perpetrators. 43,000 military members voluntarily took part in the StatsCan study that Vance said would serve as a benchmark to measure progress in the future.
