It’s a pretty good bet there aren’t many Zoomers who have recently played as a running back for a U-S college football team.
55-year-old Joe Thomas Sr. did just that when he carried the ball for South Carolina State in a game Saturday.
Thomas is the father of Geen Bay Packers linebacker Joe Thomas Junior, and says he was fulfilling a dream.
Joe Jr. says his dad was an entrepreneur who owned a South Carolina construction company and a training facility. He says the businesses were ruined by the recession, so his father decided to go back to college where he’s currently working on his engineering degree.
He worked out with the South Carolina State team, and was given a chance to play Saturday against Savannah State on Senior Day.
Thomas got the ball with 4:34 left in the first quarter and gained 3 yards. He finished with four carries for minus 1 yard rushing.
The team presented him with the game ball, and says he felt like a hero.
His team won the game 32 – 0.
