As expected, Toronto City Council rejected the idea of making a bid for World Expo 2025.
But Council also kept the door open for future events.
The motion to host the 2025 event failed because of the believed cost. Staff told the executive committee a bid would cost $1.9 Billion and any outside funding would come out of the infrastructure budget. Meaning less cash for transit and housing, which John Tory said the city could ill-afford.
But council also voted overwhelmingly in favour of considering future World Expo’s including the one to be held in 2030.
