Subsidies designed to help renovate or rebuild Long Term Care homes in Ontario are falling short.

As a result,  the Ontario Long Term Care Association is calling on the province to get rid of municipal development fees for care homes and to ensure construction subsidies keep pace with inflation.

A new OLTCA report shows nearly half of all long term care homes in Ontario need to be rebuilt or renovated but less than 20 per cent of those homes, for a variety of reasons, are unwilling to undergo a construction project.
In 2014 the Wynne Government announced subsidies for construction but the according to the association the subsidies have not increased with inflation.
Candace Chartier – the president of the OLTCA – says they like the subsidy but it needs to be revisited to reflect the growing impact of inflation.
