The New York Times published a story Sunday that claims that Donald Trump may have avoided paying federal income tax for 18 years.
The Times bases its allegation on the first pages of Trump’s 1995 state tax returns for New York, Connecticut and New Jersey,
They show that the billionaire businessman had losses of over 900-million dollars that year. Under IRS regulations, it meant Trump could avoid paying taxes for up to the three years prior to the losses being incurred, and up to 15 years after.
The Trump campaign is accusing the New York Times of working to get Democrat Hillary Clinton elected.
In a Tweet early Sunday, Trump says he’s the only one who can fix America’s complex tax laws because he knows them better than anyone who has ever run for president.
