Residents of Haiti are being urged to put together emergency food and water kits as the Island nation prepares for Hurricane Matthew.
Matthew has wind speeds of 240 kilomteres an hour and forecasters predict it could also strike parts of Jamaica and Cuba by Tuesday.
The U.S. Navy has evacuated all but the most necessary personnel from its base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba because of the possibility of a direct hit from the powerful storm.
In Haiti, a major concern is heavy rainfall that could cause severe mudslides.
