New Yorkers have the reputation for not getting scared easily, but it’s a sure bet there were many who were a bit jittery after a couple of explosions on the weekend.
An explosion Saturday night in the Chelsea area of Manhatten injured 29 people, one seriously. Mayor Bill de Blasio says it was a bomb, and that it was set off intentionally, but he says there is nothing so far that suggests terrorists are involved.
Just a few blocks away, police found a suspicious, pressure-cooker device with wires attached to it. It was taken away for investigation. There’s no evidence yet that the two incidents are related.
Earlier Saturday a pipe bomb exploded in a nearby New Jersey oceanside community. There were no injuries, but a charitty run was cancelled.
Officials say they don’t see a connection yet between the two explosions.
