If you thought chicken waffles on a stick or deep-fried red velvet Oreos at the CNE in Toronto last year were your kind of gourmet food, then you’ll love this year’s Calgary Stampede.
There’s the usual fare that includes mini-donuts and bratwurst on a stick, but for the gastronomically adventurous, how about a deep fried hollowed-out pickle with a hot dog inside, or poutine-infused hotdogs coated in corn butter and deep fried. You can also get a hamburger stuffed with macaroni and cheese, or deep fried peanut butter balls with bacon.
Calgary Dietitian Andrea Hardy says it’s okay to have some fun and enjoy midway food in moderation, but it’s not a good idea to scarf it down every day.
