The Swiss have decided they can live without the government guaranteeing each person a basic income.
According to the polling group g-f-s bern, voters have overwhelmingly turned down a proposal for every citizen of Switzerland to receive an unconditional basic income.
Activists calling for such a plan had forced the referendum by obtaining the necessary 100-thousand signatures.
The plan’s proponents said such a guaranteed basic income would allow people to puruse more creative goals and free them from the drudgery of meaningless employment.
Critics said it would wreak havoc on the state budget, and would encourage laziness.
