Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says now isn`t the time for him to visit Fort McMurray, Alberta.
He promised to visit the region when the situation is calmer in the community decimated by a raging wildfire.
Trudeau says it`s not particularly helpful for a prime minster to arrive on the scene when firefighters are trying to contain the blaze.
He says he`s certain he will visit Fort McMurray in the coming weeks to share with Canadians the “scale and the scope of the devastation.“
The forecast calls for cooler temperatures in the region this week, but still no heavy rain.
The fire appears to be heading toward the border with Saskatchewan.
