The Toronto Zoo has launched an investigation after a woman climbed over a safety fence at the tiger pen on Saturday to get her hat that had fallen in.

Someone posted a video on YouTube that shows the tiger, still behind a second fence, pacing back and forth in what looks like an effort to get at the woman.

Other zoo visitors are heard gasping, and yelling at the woman.

After she gets her hat, she jumps back over the fence.

Zoo officials would like to hear from witnesses who can give them more details about the incident.

Spokesperson Jennifer Tracey says if visitors drop something over a protective fence they should contact zoo staff who can retrieve it for them.
