The flu season this year is off to a slow start.

Across Canada just one percent of patients tested have shown positive for the flu.

Based on data from the past five flu seasons, officials were expecting a rate so far of between 3 and 12 percent.

They’re giving some of the credit to this year’s flu shot which they say appears to be a good match for the current flu strain.

So far, the Influenza A or H3N2 strain is the most common one affecting Canadians.

But it’s still early in the flu season according to British Columbia’s Deputy Health Minister Dr. Bonnie Henry, who says flu cases generally peak in mid January.
