REPORTS OF SUICIDES BECAUSE OF ASHLEY MADISON WEBSITE HACK

There are unconfirmed reports that two people have committed suicide because their names and information were on the Ashley Madison website. The webiste facilitates extramarital affairs.

There are also reports that criminals are using data from the site to extort people.

Toronto Police have been investigating the hacking of the site, and while they aren’t giving any details about the reports of suicides, reports in the U.S. say a Texas police captain took his own life after his email address was discovered in an Ashley Madison account.

The website is owned by Toronto-based Avid Life Media, which says it has it has about 39 million members worldwide.

It’s co-operating with the police investigation and has offered a 500 thousand dollar reward for information that leads to the arrest of the hackers.
