The United Nations wants to slow population growth by keeping girls in school until they’re 18 years of age.

The world body says it would ensure that women have the education and the information as well access to services they need to help them decide the number of children they want. And it says women tend to have fewer children if they have their first one after they turn 18.

By the year 2030 the UN estimates the world’s population will reach 8.5 billion; 9.7 billion people by 2050, and over 11 billion by the end of the century.
