Visitors to Toronto’s Pan Am Park used muscle-power to help set a record. It’s a Guiness World Record for the most people generating electricity in a one week period, and it was done in a very novel way.

Participants competed head-to-head on a marathon slot-car track that was powered by secondary-use batteries from Chevrolet Volts.

Participants rode stationary bicycles attached to generators to control the speed of the cars and to charge the batteries through their own pedal power.

Over 13 thousand electrical watt hours of electricity was generated over the course of the week by a total of 4,739 people taking part.
