There has been another setback for a performing arts centre to be located at the World Trade Centre.

According to The New York Times, the corporation that heads up downtown redevelopment in The Big Apple wants the centre to be completed with about half the original cost; no more than 200 million dollars.

Ninety-nine-million dollars in federal money has been committed to the project, but the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation says it’s contingent on those in charge of the project coming up with an affordable design along with a plan for raising money.

Acclaimed British theatre director David Lan was hired last year as a temporary artistic director.

Maggie Boepple, the centre’s president says they can still create a great building for 200 million dollars.
