Singer Ronnie Gilbert has died.

Gilbert, along with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays and Fred Hellerman was a member of “The Weavers,” an influential 1950s folk music group.

Gilbert died Saturday in Mill Valley, California at the age of 88.

“The Weavers” were famous for such hits as “If I Had A Hammer,” “Goodnight Irene,” “On Top Of Old Smokey,” and “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine.”

But their left-wing leanings got them in hot water with McCarthy era anti-communists, and they ended up being blacklisted. They couldn’t record or perform on television or radio, or even many live venues.

“The Weavers” eventually disbande, with Gilbert going on to a solo career as a singer, an actress and a psychologist.
