Toronto-born actor Jonathan Crombie has died. He was best known for his role as the character Gilbert Blythe in the Anne of Green Gables television movies on the CBC; the original in 1985 and two sequels in 1987 and 2000.
Crombie died on April 15th in New York from complications from a brain hemmorrhage . He was 48.
Crombie was the son of David Crombie, a former Toronto mayor and federal cabinet minister in the Brian Mulroney government.
In 2008 he performed in the Broadway Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone.
His Anne of Green Gables co-star Megan Followes said Jonathan Crombie was icredibly funny, and his unexpected loss was a great shock.
