The Dickens Museum in London has received a 1.2 million dollar grant from a heritage fund backed by the British government to be used to buy the desk where Charles Dickens wrote many of his books, including “Great Expectations” and “A Tale of Two Cities.”

The desk used by the 19th century novelist was sold by the Dickens family for charity in 2004.

Since then the desk and its chair have been on loan to the Dickens Museum which will now be able to display them as permanent fixtures.

The desk was used by Dickens in the last years of his life.
