Vanuatu is beginning to receive aid after it was hammered by what’s being called a monster cyclone.

The tiny island-nation in the Pacific Ocean was hit with 270-kilometre per hour winds from Cyclone Pam which flattened most homes and other structures in its path,

According to a World Vision  emergency communications officer, entire villages have been destroyed in outlying islands of the archipelago.

Power lines and phone circuits are down, making it difficult to determine an accurate number of dead and injured.

Some of the first aid donations are arriving from Australia and New Zealand, including cash and medical and search personnel.
