To the sounds of Sitar music, a statue of Mohandas K. Ghandi was unveiled in London’s Parliament Square Saturday.

British Prime Minister David Cameron and India’s finance minister unveiled the statue.

The statue was inspired by a photo taken in 1931 of Ghandi at Number 10 Downing Street, the residence of the British Prime Minister.

Ghandi’s nonviolence tactics were praised by Cameron, who called him one of the most towering figures in the history of global politics.
