A funeral service was held Saturday for Sergeant Andrew Doiron, the first Canadian soldier killed in the Iraq mission.

The private service took place at Ottawa’s Notre-Dame Cathedral.

An urn containing Sgt, Doiron’s remains was carried into the church by four soldiers followed by Mounties in red serge.

Doiron, a special forces member, was killed by what the military is calling a friendly fire incident involving Kurdish forces near Irbil.
