International Women’s Day was celebrated Sunday.

Around the world events took place to promote causes such as combating sexual violence, equal pay for women, and racial equality.

More than five thousand people took part in a Women’s Day march in Toronto on Saturday.  Women’s shelters, community groups and labour groups were represented.

Premier Kathleeen Wynne on Friday unveiled her government’s plan to fight harassment and sexual violence through legislation as well as increased funding and a new advertising campaign.

The plan, called “It’s Never Okay” will be backed by a 41-million-dolllar committment over three years.
