Iconic American documentary filmaker Albert Maysles has died at the age of 88.

Albert Maysles and his brother David were famous for capturing spontaneous living in their feature-length non-fiction movies shot with hand-held cameras.

The Maysles captured the killing of a Rolling Stones fan at their Altamont Speedway concert by a biker gang in the 1969 film “Gimme Shelter.”

Their 2009 film Grey Gardens was about Jackie Kennedy’s family, and was filmed in Toronto.  It starred Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.
