Prime Minister Stephen Harper is pressing Moscow  to ensure that the assassination of Russian oposition leader Boris Nemtsov yesterday is fully investigated,

Nemtsov, one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s most vocal critics, was gunned down while walking near the Kremlin,

In a statement, Prime Minister Harper said those responsible for what he called “this shameful act of violence” must be held to account in a “swift, transparent and independent investigation.”

Mr. Harper said Nemtsov will be remembered as a fearless advocate of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Russia.

The president of Lithuania says the murder of Nemtsov shows that Russia is sliding down to the darkness of terror against its own people.
