With our frigid weather, Mayor John Tory’s push to keep some skating rinks open around TO, has been successful. Before taking a skate out in front of City Hall, the Mayor announced that two sponsors, GFL Waste Management along with Maple Leaf Sports And Entertainment have stepped forward to provide funding assistance for an additional 12 rinks to stay open along side 17 others which were already scheduled to stay open until the end of March Break.

35 rinks were originally scheduled to close Sunday. Last year, all rinks were supposed to close before the break, until two corporations Canadian Tire and Scotiabank saw them donate 270-thousand dollars to keep 11 rinks open through most of last March.
