Mayor John Tory revealed his Poverty Reduction Strategy which is calling for $2.2 million from the 2015 budget, and will focus on affordable housing, student nutrition, city services, food security, employment assistance, & transportation services for seniors.
The announcement was made by Tory on Thursday alongside Joe Mihevc and Pam McConnell who are tasked with developing the project.
According to McConnell, 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults are living in poverty.
The plan is to expand funding which could eventually cost close to $24.5 million which includes the TTC fare relief for kids.
