A private funeral service for longtime CBS newsman Bob Simon will be held Tuesday morning at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.
A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
The veteran “60 Minutes” correspondent was known for covering wars and conflicts, but he was also a music lover who reported on several opera stories over his career.
Simon died in a car crash Wednesday night when the livery cab he was riding in slammed into another vehicle on New York’s West Side Highway, and then struck a guardrail. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, which isn’t a requirement for livery cabs.
Simon spent 47 years with CBS News and won 27 Emmy awards.
