There’s strong criticism aimed at Australia’s largest newspaper over wording in its obituary for that country’s famed author Colleen McCullough.

McCullough, author of the novel “The Thorn Birds” which sold 30 million copies worldwide, died Thursday at the age of 77 after a long ilness.

In its obituary, the newspaper “The Australian” didn’t begin with MCCullough’s many accomplishments, but rather by describing her appearance, saying she was plain and overweight.

Critics are calling it a blatantly sexist treatment of a lauded literary figure.

The newspaper was mocked for it’s article by people around the world.
