The G20 leaders summit wrapped up today in Brisbane, Australia with a pledge to boost the global economy by two-trillion dollars over five years.

And Prime Minister Stephen Harper praised efforts to tackle climate change that were brought up at the meeting.

But it was Harper’s challenge to Russian President Vladimir Putin that shone a spotlight on the PM as well.  On Saturday Harper begrudgingly shook hands with Putin, telling him to get his troops out of Ukraine.  It’s reported that Putin said it would be imposssible since they aren’t there.

At a post-meeting press conference today before boarding a plane for home, Harper grinned involuntarily when members of the foreign press told him he was being haild as a hero for his actions.

Harper said that he and the other leaders of the G20 need to keep pressuring Putin and Russia to end their involvement in the crisis in Ukraine.
