A patient at a Brampton hospital has tested negative for the Ebola virus.

Ontario’s Minister of Health Dr. Eric Hoskins made the announcement in a statement issued early Sunday morning.

Hoskins says testing done on samples from the patient at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg came up negative for Ebola virus disease.

The patient was admitted to Brampton Civic Hospital and kept in isolation with flu-like symptoms after coming back from Nigeria.   Nigeria is one of the West Africa countries battling an Ebola outbreak that has taken nearly a thousand lives.

Hoskins says Ontario is fully prepared should any Ebola cases appear in the province.
