An amazing young Texas girl displayed grit and poise as she addressed those who attended a memorial service for her family on Saturday.   Just three days earlier a man shot and killed her mother Katie and Father Stephen, as well as her sisters, 7 year-old Rebecca and 9 year-old Emily; and brothers Zachary 4 and Bryan 14,

Fifteen year-old Cassidy Stay was grazed in the head by a bullet, but played dead, a move that saved her life and likely the lives of others.

When the gunman left, she was able to alert police that he was on the way to her grandparents’ house next.  Police were able to catch up with him and arrested Cassidy’s ex-uncle, 33 year-old Ronald Lee Haskell.

Yesterday as community and family members gathered in her home town of Spring, Texas, Cassidy thanked everyone for their prayers, and thanked first responders who cared for her.  She said she’s feeling a lot better, and is on what she decribed as a very straightforward path to a full recovery.
