Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivered a rebuke to Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday night, and also reminded his audience of the evils of communism.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a Toronto dinner that was raising money to build a permanent memorial in Ottawa to the memory of victims of communism.

He said over 100-million people around the world have been killed as a result of communism’s poisonous ideology.

Harper also mentioned Vladimir Putin’s recent remark that he wondered why Canada cares so much about Ukraine when it’s so far away.

Harper said it shows that Putin just doesn’t get it:  that Ukrainians want what Canadians have, freedom, democracy and justice.

There are about 1.2 million Canadians whose roots go back to Ukraine.
