Liberal leader Justin Trudeau says he understands the concern many people have about his decision to have only new candidates in the next election who will vote pro-choice on relevant legislation. The rule would not apply to current members of Parliament running for re-election.
Trudeau sent an email to supporters in which he said his father, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, read the Bible to his children, and as a staunch Catholic, went to church every Sunday.
But Trudeau said his father had no trouble decriminalizing homosexuality and legalizing divorce because he believed political leaders had to represent the larger community.
