Austria’s president calls it a victory for diversity and tolerance in Europe.

Bearded drag queen Conchita Wurst is back home in Austria after winning the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest Saturday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Wurst is the alter ego of 25 year-old Thomas Neuwirth, and before Saturday’s show, had been criticized by some eastern European countries as an example of Western decadence.

Wurst won the contest with the song “Rise Like A Phoenix.”

Juries and television viewers across Europe picked the winner.
