The stars came out to bid farewell to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Friday in NewYork City.

Those attending a private funeral for the 46 year-old actor who died last weekend of a suspected heroin overdose,  included Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix, Laura Linney, Julianne Moore, Ethan Hawke and Ellen Burstyn.

Hoffman, considered one of the finest actors of his generation, was found dead in his Greenwich Village apartment last Sunday with a needle stuck in his arm, and baggies with heroin nearby. 

A public memorial service is planned for a later date.
