Toronto’s Anton Kuerti remains in a Miami, Florida hospital after becoming ill during a performance Thursday night.
The renowned 75 year-old pianist had just begun his Beethoven program when, accoding to audience members, he started to play the same notes over and over.
He was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital where he was joined by his partner Catherine Berthiaume.
By Saturday morning there was still no word on his condition.
Kuerti was born in Austria, grew up in the U-S, and has lived in Canada for more than 35 years.
He’s the Artistic Director of Toronto’s Mooredale Concerts, and a teacher at the Royal Conservatory.
Christina Cavanagh, Marketing Director for Mooredale Concerts, says Sunday’s performance by European baroque orchestra “Il Giardino d’Amore” at U. of T’s Walter Hall will go ahead as scheduled.
Kuerti planned to be at the concert.
