Thousands of participants are walking Toronto streets Saturday and Sunday to help fight cancer. They’re taking part in the 11th annual Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
This year the Weekend offers a new downtown route along the waterfront of Lake Ontario and through diverse neighborhoods of the city.
This year’s walk has raised 8 million dollars…. and it goes to support Personalized Cancer Medicine, which includes research, treatment, care and prevention programs at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Walkers last year had to camp overnight in a very soggy Downsview Park. But even ‘though it’s raining again for this year’s event, they’ll be a lot more comfortable tonight when they camp at the Rogers Centre.
