BAIL GRANTED TO POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH SHOOTING 18 YEAR-OLD ON STREETCAR

The Toronto Police officer charged with second degree murder in the Sammy Yatim case is out on 510 thousand dollars bail.

Thirty year-old Constable James Forcillo was granted bail at a court appearance shortly after he turned himself in early Tuesday.  He will have to report to the province’s Special Investigations Unit once a week.  The reasons for granting bail are under a publication ban.

Eighteen year-old Sammy Yatim died when he was shot nine times and Tasered on a Toronto streetcar last month after being ordered to drop a knife.

Much of the sights and sounds of the incident were captured on video and ignighted passionate demonstrations as well ascalls for charges to be laid.
