The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 276 people working in the film industry to become members, including some Canadians.

 

The Academy, the organization behind the Oscars, Hollywood’s highest honours, has extended invitations to a variety of actors, directors, writers, publicists, producers and others:  among them Toronto filmmaker Sarah Polley, Ottawa actress Sandra Oh and Montreal-based “Rebelle” director Kim Nguyen.

 

Also included on the list are Jason Bateman, Jenifer Lopez, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening.
