Officials say a conviction could be very costly for motorists nabbed for driving after too many drinks over the holidays.
It’s estimated that the minimum cost of a conviction for driving at or over the legal blood-alcohol limit is 13 thousand, 475 dollars.
That includes such things as legal fees, fines, increased insurance costs, and an ignition interlock.
It also means a loss of drivers licence, and that could mean loss of a job.
All of that adds up to a very expensive drink.
A MADD Canada survey found four of ten Canadians acknowledge they have driven a vehicle even though they believed that they were legally impaired.
