Children’s entertainer and advocate Raffi has co-founded a movement to make social media safe for young users.

The Red Hood Project includes a website, a Facebook and a Twitter page.

The 64 year-old Raffi says he took on the project because he was shaken and angered by the death of Amanda Todd, a British Columbia teen who committed suicide in October after she was bullied and sexually exploited online.

The project also includes a letter Raffi co-wrote to the C-O-O of Facebook.

The letter, which includes Todd’s mother’s signature, says the 15-year-old was blackmailed through Facebook and urges the social media company to correct “the security failures that made such victimization possible.”

Raffi says education of parents and young users is important.

But the musician adds the onus should to social media companies to do all that they can.
