Despite recent talks of putting more officers on the streets, the Toronto Police Service may have fewer members next year.
Chief Bill Blair says the police board’s decision to freeze the force’s 2013 budget will require significant staffing changes.
The board also agreed to look for more than five per cent in savings as long as the cuts don’t compromise public safety.
The city is asking all departments to forgo budget increases next year and plans a study to determine just how many officers it needs.
