This past weekend, the double-feature cinematic event of the summer took place when two completely different films debuted and absolutely tore up the box office.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which follows the true story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, based on the iconic doll, combined to gross over $500 million worldwide on opening weekend.
From a subject matter, tone and genre standpoint, the films could not be more different, and yet moviegoers all over the world went to see BOTH in a cultural phenomenon that internet users have dubbed “Barbenheimer”.
Sam Houston previewed the weekend on The Morning Zoom with Sam & Jane.
