Benson’s a burly old boy with a thick, cuddly coat and a sweet and sensitive soul. He values the simple things in life and has a set a principles he’s lived by since he was a pup: eat plenty, love many, and get as many ear scratches before naptime as he can. Quiet ruminations in-front of the fire, the smell of wet grass, and catching the highlights when the day is done — that’s old boy Benson.

Benson’s a friendly fella who loves other dogs of all sizes and is very respectful of their varying temperaments. He understands life is full of all kinds of characters and is always ready to make a new doggie friend. He loves people, too. With his beautiful, intelligent brown eyes and that big ol smile of his, he introduces himself as shy and sweet, if a little reserved. With a couple treats and a few ear scratches, he’s warmed up to you and wants to know what your plans are for the rest of the day. He’s a lovable boy who was a Toronto Humane Society staff favourite till he moved in with a loving foster family.

Still, Benson can some off as a little grumpy when you first meet him. He’s like a very furry, four-legged, more “masculine” version of Larry David. New situations and  He’s not one for children or any of their silly, youthful antics. Benson’s about chopin’ wood out back, fixing things around the house, and sitting in his favourite living room chair with a cold one. Sure he loves to play, but he’s gotta get settled in first!

Benson would do best in an adult only home outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown. He loves other dogs and could definitely live with one or two in his new home. He’s got so much love to give to those who respect him and his space. With patience from his humans, he would thrive and show you what a fun guy he can still be even after all these years!
