There’s a particularly loyal and fervent fanbase for ‘The Blues’ – and I’ve been asked when am I going to do a show featuring blues music. Your request is answered this Sunday – as I note the 100th anniversary of the first authentic blues song to hit #1 on the Billboard music chart – ‘Down Hearted Blues’ by Bessie Smith was the breakthrough this week in 1923.
Many blues legends would follow and you’ll hear the cream of the crop: Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Dinah Washinton, B.B. King, Long John Baldry, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Jeff Healey, and many others too. What a line-up – what a show – tell your friends and relatives who love ‘The Blues’, to tune in.
The first hour is ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ and this weekend I’ll take you from ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ in ‘The Roaring Twenties’ to the ‘…Year 2525’, and I’ll tell you ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘Bette Davis Eyes’. That’s all on this Sunday’s ‘Vintage Favourites’ from 2:00 – 4:30pm.
